Items of interest:

Takedowns: We are looking for both speed and accuracy. This means a full pop song takedown in about 3 hours (obviously not every fill written, but complete enough for everyone in the band to know the important things to play).
Copying: You need to not only be an expert at using the software, but also posess expert knowledge of copying standards.
Software: We use only Finale by Coda, the latest Macintosh version available. On every project, a custom template for the project is sent to all copyists.
Email: Almost all of the projects we get here are rush projects, so we rely heavily on electronically transferring large PDF files, audio files, midi files and Finale files. Basic familiarity with simple FTP software, such as Fetch or Transmit, is required, as well as an email provider that can handle attachments well.
Computer Platform: We use Macintosh exclusively, but we have no trouble at all working with Finale for Windows files. If you are using Windows, there is a chance you may need to locate and/or purchase fonts we use on Mac.
Pay rate: We use the American Federation of Musicians Local 47 payrates.

Sending a sample of your work

Samples submitted to Brian Benison Music should be small but impressive; 1 or 2 pages of master rhythm or piano/conductor parts, song, lead sheet, etc. Samples should show use of expressions, articulations, chord symbols, etc. Check your work for accuracy--people actually do send in samples with obvious mistakes.

If you can do takedowns and MIDI file transcriptions, please include small samples of an audio transcription, as Finale file or PDF, preferably with 15 seconds or so of the mp3 that was transcribed.

The main thing is, samples should impress--and its not all about just knowing how to use the software; it is mostly about accuracy and knowing the art of music preparation.
